Bird Patterns are GO!

Finally my bird applique blocks are ready to buy as individual patterns!

It’s been a long time coming but I finally got my act together and with the help of an amazing ‘pattern elf’ (you know who you are!) I have managed to produce four bird patterns which have just been released.

I already had a blue tit and a robin as I had been teaching these in workshops for a while. And Mr and Mrs Blackbird were original the centre piece to blocks in the A Month in the Country BOM for Today’s Quilter.

And yesterday I revealed this handsome goldfinch!  One of my favourite birds, he has been on my ‘to do list’ for a while.

These four birds, robin, blue tit, goldfinch and Blackbirds (both Mr and Mrs in one pattern) are available as a pdf download to buy on their own for £2.50 or as a bundle of 4 for £8.

Head to my Payhip store to purchase now.  And I have a special introductory discount of 20% off for this weekend only, starting now (offer ends midnight Sunday), just use code BIRDSHAVEFLOWN at checkout!

I will have paper patterns to follow in the Edinburgh store and online at the end of February. These will be launched at QuiltCon on the wonderful Morris Textiles stand. Leisa Morris is a Brit living in the USA who has started a business selling British quilting fabric, patterns, books, etc to the American market. She will be selling my new book, thread collections and patterns going forward and she launches her new store properly at QuiltCon in a few weeks. I’ll be doing demos and helping on her stand, more on this soon, including a book signing slot!

And if that’s not enough bird activity I also have the beautiful Garden Birds Pillow in the current issue (58) of Today’s Quilter magazine!

I scaled up my blue tit and created a bullfinch, one of the most colourful birds  you can see here at Shangri la Farm (I saw one yesterday!).

I’ve tried to keep them all to scale and as the third bird is the smallest in the UK that meant making a larger version of the blue tit.

That wee sweet bird is a gold crest…

I’m sure these will all end up in my single pattern collection one day but in the meantime you can get all three with a copy of the magazine, which also includes Jo Avery’s Creative Corner which this month is all about machine quilting.

I’m so pleased with these bird patterns and I hope you will enjoy them too. If you make your own please share them with me, either in an email or on social media.

They even have their own hashtag #joaverysaviary  – isn’t that genius! I can claim no credit for it whatsoever. My student Caroline came out with it when I was teaching the blue tit class at the recent Thread House Winter Retreat. She said she almost didn’t mention it as she thought I would get people saying it to me all the time. But quite the opposite!  Nobody else had ever thought of it, including me, so thank you for that Caroline!

Expect a new batch of Jo Avery’s Aviary birds around Easter time!
