Another Cathedral Window Cushion, Another Magazine…

Here’s a cushion I finished back in January. I did give you a sneak peek and shared the embroideries I used, but now you can see the finished result.
Another Cathedral Window (it’s becoming an addiction!), made again from Essex Linen this time in bleached white, and with vintage and new embroideries peeping through the windows.

It is a version of a pillow I made a few years back as a Christmas present for my Mother-in-law. There is a photo of the original on my side bar or you can see it here. I used all vintage embroideries for that one having just scored a big haul from a church sale. It was quite a wrench to give that pillow away so I was more than happy to make another one for myself!

Fabrications magazine asked me to make a version of that original pillow for a project in their magazine.
I’m pleased it made the cover, though not the main photo this time!

They asked me to design a few new embroideries in case readers didn’t have access to any old ones.

Here are the 4 floral motifs I designed for the magazine. They are updated versions of vintage embroideries from my collection. You can read more about this here.

I’m really very fond or this new pillow. It is currently travelling around the quilt shows as part of the Fabrications Magazine stand. This magazine is affiliated with the Grosvenor Quilt Shows, such as the one I usually exhibit at that’s held just outside Edinburgh twice a year. But the magazine is available at all good newsagents like WHSmiths.

I am looking forward to seeing the cushions again at the September show and then maybe I can take it home with me!

  1. I think this is the prettiest cushion I've ever seen! You've inspired me to do something with the vintage embroidery bits and bobs I have around the place. Hopefully I'll get on the Cathedral Windows class at the FQ Retreat and I'll definitely be taking my pieces along to that!

  2. This is really beautiful! Congratulations on another published item – it is well deserved – such a lovely cushion, I can see why your first one was hard to part with.

  3. Hahaha…I love what Little Island Quilting said!;)

Great use of the vintage stuff…I remember your excitement when you found that haul!

Sure hope they are taking good care of your cushion and not letting folks touch it with dirty hands!!:) Congrats lady!!

  4. I haven't been following your blog for all that long but this post is exactly the reason I immediately placed you in my reader when i did find you!!!!!!

Absolutely beautiful. It is hard to take my eyes away and move on. Cathedral windows have always had a special appeal, but with your stitching peaking out – well – your work is stunning. And this pillow – brilliant.
