Clamshells – rinse and repeat

First off I want to thank you for all the beautiful, heart-felt comments you left after my last post. They were all so comforting and supportive and I really appreciate you taking the time to leave them.

Also a special message to KAY. Kay, you have been leaving lovely comments on my blog for a while now and I would love to send you a reply but you are a NO-REPLY BLOGGER so I can’t. Please attach an email address to your google account so we can chat!

A few months back I made this Clamshell Cushion from Liberty tana lawn scraps.
The editor of the wonderful new modern quilting mag, Love Patchwork and Quilting, saw it and asked if I would make a version for the magazine. I was delighted to accept, I love this magazine and feel very honoured to be included amongst it’s pages.

And I was even more thrilled this week when I discovered my cushion on the cover! This is issue 4 which came out on wednesday.

It’s packed with gorgeousness, including not one, but two cushions from Fiona Poppymakes! I was very pleased that Fiona got a project included too as it was her tutorial that I used to make the original clamshell cushion (I did check first with Fiona that she didn’t mind me using the same idea for my project!).

Lynne is doing a block of the month feature in every issue and this month’s is a total stunner. I can’t wait to try it out and it’s worth buying the magazine for alone! (Not showing you it – go and buy the magazine!)

I have scaled up the clamshells slightly from my original cushion, and each clamshell is from a different fabric. It really is a great project for using up scraps, especially from those precious fabrics where you can’t bear to part with the last little bit.

Here is the back, made from Sketchbook by Amy Butler.
Love Patchwork and Quilting is on the newsstand now or head over to their website for a fantastic subscription offer – 3 issues for £5!!

  1. I was thrilled to see you on the cover of this magazine!!! Felt so fun to see someone familiar in print!! They did a great job photographing and presenting your lovely cushion. Yay!

  2. Good going Chica!!:) You inspire me all the time. I just finished a little wallhang/tabletopper or whatever you want to call it from an idea I got from one of your other EPP pillows. Now I am working on some hexi flowers from Liberty bits I bought in London and bits from The Stitch Gathering so of course I think of you and Lynz and the other ladies while I'm stitching!:) xo

  3. I love the cushion and have already subscribed to the magazine as it always full of wonderful designs. One of my aims this year is to make more cushions to try new methods and designs but also to have quick finishes. I will try to sort out how to add an email address to my account!

  4. I'm going to try and pick a copy of this up tomorrow coz I know *loads* of contributers this month! Congrats on a gorgeous make – I need a closer look!
