Cathedral Window Cover
At last I can share this quilt with you that I made back in January.
And I’m so ecited that it’s the cover quilt on this month’s Love Patchwork and Quilting Magazine (out today!)! Eeek!!
This was quite a big project as not only did they want a quilt with a matching cushion, but they also wanted a whole technical feature on Cathedral Windows.
I used charm packs of Chicopee with Kona Natural for both the quilt and the cushion. I hand quilted with different coloured perle cotton 8’s in lines between the windows. You can just about see it in the quilt close up below.
Here is the cushion, just a scaled down version of the quilt.
And for the technical feature I made this piece below to show the hand stitching technique and how different it looks if you swap patterns and solids around.
I was really pleased with the colour wash effect I got here and was able to use it as a sample for my Colour Theory for Quilts class too.
How pretty does it look held up to the light?!
I haven’t actually got my hands on a copy yet (off to the newsagents later!), so I am sharing this page from their website. I love the photography and styling. They really have shown both pieces off to perfection here! I wonder how much they had to pay that cat to walk about and coordinate with the quilt and cushion?!

ohh I haven't got my copy yet but it looks a fab quilt. I was trying to explain and show cathedral windows to my patchwork club but it uses so much fabric it's an expensive cushion/quilt isn't it. Congrats x

Congratulations on being a cover girl Jo! So pleased for you. Those cathedrals must have taken a lot of love and hard work – they're beautiful! I really like the coloured one too using different background fabrics – it really sets the imagination alight to all the possibilities!

Did you notice they manipulated the final quilt cover photo cause going across the top row the turquoise is right but the pink and orange are not in the real quilt in those spots! It's been airbrushed!!!:)

Fabulous quilt and cushion. I still have my squares cut out and unused from yhe FQR last year! I do love the effect and so I will make one sometime, thanks for showing us how.
I got my copy through the door this morning and my first thought was 'My friends quilt is on the cover – brilliant!' So much work involved for you but it was so worth it, it's a gorgeous quilt and cushion and a fab tutorial. As always you've left me wanting to make one!

My copy arrived today, (in Germany). I just had to visit you as I've been thinking about making a cathedral window quilt. I've made two cathedral window pincushions and thought it would be nice to make a small quilt. You've saved me having to look for a good tutorial. Also I've now found your blog, and shop. I'm often passing through Edinburgh in the summer en route either to or from the airport. I will have to allow more time in order to try and get to your shop.
Definitely seeking this issue out!!! I have been wanting to learn this technique for some time now and who better to learn from? Your projects for the article are stunning. My eyes don't want to leave the screen!!!
