Boy, we all need some tips on storing our fabric! I tend to keep collections together on shelves or in decorative baskets. Random fabric for backings or scraps projects is stored in clear boxes under my cutting table and organized scraps are in smaller clear boxes. I like having my fabric visible so I can quickly find just the right piece when I'm working!

Well, I have a pretty small stash, I have to admit, but my friend bought be a fat quarter storage bag, and I love it! In fact, I've filled and am planning to get another one! Before that I was keeping them in a relatively small clip top box, which I also liked…..

I have no clue how to store a big fabric stash. Mine is a mess!

Jo, I have a nice stash but also a huge fondness and use of my books so the books stay and the fabric is allocated into plastic totes downstairs. Not ideal, but that way I'm not overwhelmed and can find what I need when I need it.
My Mom also has some fabrics kitted with their patterns in "under the bed storage totes" to contain a project or two that will be done in the near future. As for backing fabrics, the next time your mattresses get flipped, store some of the larger widths of fabric flat between your mattresses. LOL That will make you feel like your the princess in the Princess and the pea!

I don't have a huge stash but what I do have is stored in the closet in those shoe hanging things. You can store quite a bit of fabric in them. And I keep my scraps in a laundry basket under my sewing table ready to add to scrap quilts or scrappy paper piecing. It's all sew much fun!

I just have my piles of FQs sitting on a shelf and in no particular order. That means I shuffle through the piles when I am looking for a particular color or pattern. So sorry, I'm not much help. Thanks for hosting this blog hop, the book would certainly help in diminishing my pile.

I definitely need storage tips. I would actually love floor to ceiling cabinets on one wall in our spare bedroom but that probably won't happen lol.

I have an armoir that I've put wooden crates in the cabinet part as shelving where I store my bigger cuts (more than a yard) rolled onto foam board like faux bolts. Then in the lower half I store my smaller cuts and batting in drawers. It's not as tidy as it sounds, but it's a system that works for me. Thank you for the opportunity to win!

I use cube storage boxes to store fabric by color.

It's difficult using up any of your gorgeous stash. I'm currently using mine up making quilts for 'Quilts for Comfort' charity so going to a good home !

Congrats on the new book and thanks for a great giveaway. I've an antique roll front oak filing cabinet with pull out shelves that stores about half my stash. The rest is divided amonst a series of Ikea storage boxes wihch are easy to stack but it a bt of a nuisance when the boxes you want always seem to be bottom of the pile but I'll get shelves to store them on and then I should bw well organised.

Mine is out of control and I only have a small house so really I need to move, not the best advice though! 😉 Congratulations!

I store my fabric by color in a large cabinet. Smaller cuts are stored in plastic drawers by color. I have clear shoe boxes where I store 2 1/2 inch strips by color. Congrats on the new book!

Gorgeous giveaway. I wrap 1/2 yards and more around comic board (cardboard) and store in hanging baskets and all my fat quarters are in the drawer of an old washstand … like everyone else, it spills over and I have scraps everywhere! Good luck with the book; it looks fabby.

Love the book. I use a standing wire basket frame with shelves that pull out from ikea with a different colour in each draw. The overspill goes on my bed linen shelves

In theory, mine is all in an antique sideboard, and on top of it as well…also in theory sorted out by color and style…. in theory. 😉

how about a large curtain pole mounted high up and hang from it a sheet sized bit a strong fabric. and to this add pockets with sugar bag bottoms. big enough to hold the size of a FQ then you can colour code all your stash

I'm a newbie, so all I've got is a box or so of fabric. But it *is* starting to burst at the seams, so I suppose it would be a good idea to start looking through all the ideas posted so far! This giveaway looks awesome, thanks for the chance to win!

I'm pretty happy with my stash storage solutions – lots of shelves for yardage and clear containers for small bits (organized by size and scraps organized by colour), but it's becoming clear to me that I need to sew FASTER or I'm going to run out of space. ;o)

Love that description that the fabrics are all killers not fillers! Ha!
I keep my fabrics in ikea CD storage boxes sorted &labeled by colour. That way they're protected from fading and it loojs tidy, but I most likely don't have a lot in comparison!

I think you should store your stash in my craft room… job done!

I store my fabric on bookshelves from IKEA – lots of room to see it. Small pieces are in bins by color!

I store my stash in clear plastic boxes and keep them under my desk. It's good because it's portable and doesn't get dusty. I sort all my scrappy bits into sizes (Large scraps, big enough for hexies, too small for hexies but big enough for improv blocks, strings for wrapping round presents etc) and keep them in sandwich bags. Glam!

Wow, this book looks like a good one, full of inspiration! And that stack of fabric, drool! Can't offer anything about fabric storage as mine is a mess! I've heard that some people store fabric in the trunk of the car — wait, no, they HIDE it there! LOL

I store my fabrics in plastic baskets by colour in a cupboard so no sun or dust damage and the bigger pieces are flat on the shelves

I stuff fabric in every nook and crany…I also hide it in my car so my husband can't see it. Lol

I'm so excited to see your work in the book!! I can't wait to get my hands on a copy!! When I have the space I'm going to mount each of my 1/2 m fabrics or more onto comic boards, so that i can pretend I have my own little shop!! Sad I know, but it will look very beautiful and organised!

HI, if you mean yardage, I'm not sure I'm much help.I have just a shelved area for that. But if you mean fat quarters, I love the wooden (old+cheap) cd cabinets given a fresh coat of paint and they add their own COLOR WOW! to your sewing room.

My fabric is escaping!! I try to be organised but often start a new project before finishing the last one.

I confess I've used oldest daughter's room – she sent me an image she found on Pinterest "I sent my daughter to university so i could use her room for my fabric stash" – oooops! She's in Australia now, so I know I'll get at least 24 hours warning when she's coming back!

@.@ wow what a stash! Been drooling over that book too! So generous of you! I really think bookshelves wok best, even though the fabric edges can fade unless you refold regularly. I have a bookshelf where each shelf or cubby hole is square rather than rectangular. That helps keep it under control a bit.

I didn't think that my stash was very big … Until we downsized!! It seems I've got more fabric that I originally thought .. I store my fabric by colour in plastic boxes … Boring, but it works for me!

I'm a fat quarter junkie. I want this book! When I teach children to sew I like to use fat quarters so they can pick several to make a project. It's like picking candy! I like fat quarters rolled up with a rubber band or ribbon and fill up pretty baskets. It easy to see and is decor on shelves, tables, and counters.

I store my fabric in Olfa drawers, it works very well!!!!!! I love any books that have to do with sewing or quilting, I will keep my fingers crossed!

I have a 6 foot tall wardrobe with shelves and a double door to close the mess. I would love the book for project ideas.

How about a cabinet with roll out drawers. I currently don't have enough of a stash to have a storage issue. I have a few plastic storage drawers that hold all of my sewing things (thread, fabric, rulers, etc.).

I use plastic bins for all my fabrics, to keep out the dog hair and dander. It's not a perfect system, but everything is divided by color and I can see through the plastic. Side note: I do have other bins, too, such as one for special fabrics, one for scrap strings, and ones for wips. ☺️

I didn't even know what a stash was until I met you, Jo. But not only have you made me an obsessive and compulsive quilter, this thing called 'Stash' has now taken over my house! Stored in baskets but always shouting to be taken out and drooled over lovingly. What have you done, Jo!!!!!

looks the ideal look for all those stash fabrics that seem to take over both spare bedrooms!

My stash is stored in plastic bins on shelves in a closet. The bins are labeled so I can just pull them down. I do the same in my kitchen. Even my spices are small bins with labels on top. I need to win one of those label makers. I can't wait to see this book.

Chiming in here from the USA, Commonwealth of Virginia. I love your drawstring gift bag and what a fabulous way to personalize w/fabric fats for each recipient and down size some of your stash too. We probably all have a fat quarter in mind just for that specific gift recipient.
To hold and control your stash, I love making different size fabric baskets, out of 1/2 yards for the bigger ones or scraps and fat quarters for quart sized. YOu can place those baskets virtually anywhere; on the closet floor or shelves, on window ledges, shelving high and low. Adds so much color and personalization to whatever room you "stash" them in

I store my fabric on bookshelves and in plastic drawers. It's not working really well at the moment, but I got a new shelf recently and I'm hoping that will help. One of my friends just told me that she uses hanging shoe organizers for storing fat quarters. I'm thinking of trying that out. Easy to see, access and inexpensive.

Oh my…I store large collections of fabric in an upright, vintage chest of drawers. They are out of sight that way and I know where to go whenever I need a large amount of fabrics for a big project.

I have a pretty small stash, so no good advice there, but i have a need for good fat quarter projects, so i am looking forward to this book!

Currently, my stash is stored in shoebox sized sterilite boxes. I'm not sure it's working. I'm hoping to sew down my stash a lot this summer and get it a bit more under control

I use a Billy bookcase from Ikea, and now that it is full I'm on a fabric diet and trying to use up stash … I think it's working! I can't wait to have space for some new fabric! Thank you for the giveaway and congratulations Jo!

Hi, thanks for the giveaway. I store my smaller cuts of fabric in plastic storage containers – mostly Sistema – the large oblong ones – which are great for stacking. And packing, like I had to do 5 months ago, straight into a cardboard box & no danger of getting wet.

My fabris stash fits quite nicely into a couple of small plastic stackable crates. It's a wool storage system I need! There's no more room to hide it under the bed. Kids beds next, I think 😉

I have my fabric in box files in the office, so I look like an important person with lots of paperwork – but really I just like pretty things.

My substantial fabric stash is balanced on a top shelf in our airing cupboard (to try to hide it from d.h., but I think he knows it's there really!) and I just hope the cat isn't in the way if my stash falls off the shelf when we aren't around to rescue her.

I also have smaller pieces in plastic bags within a carrier bags and other fabric folded in a fat quarter storeage bag.
