Vintage Home BOM Quilt Along – Month 4

Welcome to Month 4 of the Today’s Quilter Vintage Home BOM Quilt Along!

This month it’s all about storage. Perhaps you’ve had a big re-organisation or a clear out of unwanted clutter at the start of the year?  Maybe you’ve found some new (or vintage) tins or containers to store stuff in?  Well that’s the sort of vibe I’m going for with this month’s blocks…

This month’s issue comes with a fantastic supplement all about William Morris, what a fascinating read! And that cover quilt by Lynne Goldsworthy is one of my favourite cover quilts ever! It is such a clever and beautiful design, and makes me really want to make a red and white quilt.

This month’s blocks are probably the easiest yet so I’ve added some hand detailing with embroidered text and some appliqued hearts (to keep you match fit!).

I also thought the ‘sugar’ caddy would make a lovely block for Valentine’s day. You could even replace ‘sugar’ with your loved ones name!  I think it would be lovely on a pillow or a tote bag, or maybe even a place mat.

It’s quite a big caddy for sugar but then I do a LOT of baking for my workshops! I love to bake but am always trying to preserve my svelte figure 😉  So I bake for my students at the weekend. Home made cake is a wonderful way to finish a full days workshop 🙂

This month’s guest blogger is the beautiful Florence Knapp of Flossie Teacakes.  I love reading Florence’s blog posts, she writes so well and is both funny and thought provoking.  You can read all about her thoughts on ‘decanting’ in her blog post here.  I love her version of the Tea Caddy!

You will be pleased to hear that this month you only need to make one each of the Caddy Blocks.  The Tea Caddy is the smaller block which features a great opportunity for some fussy cutting, and a little more embroidery.  If you would like to change things up a little, and make this a coffee container instead, then please go ahead!

This month’s Vintage Shop of the Month is The Boule -in. Situated in the pretty Suffolk village of Bildeston it specialises in stylish French collectibles.

And there turned out to be a serendipitous quilting coincidence too.  Chief UK quilter and Today’s Quilter columnist, Lynne Edwards MBE lives in this part of East Anglia and is a neighbour of the owner of the Boule-in!

Which was quite useful as when I approach the shop owners I often have a long explanation ahead of me and it’s helpful if they at least know what a quilt is !
