The Thread House Academy – my turn to shine!

At the beginning of the year I told you all about my new online teaching academy which I am hosting along with my two pals Karen and Lynne, better known collectively as The Thread House. You can read the post here.

After a very successful launch with a free taster weekend the academy is now in full swing but I was last to get a teaching slot so I have been waiting patiently while Lynne and the Karen took a month to teach their classes. Finally, my first class went live last Monday!

Intertwined Improv Flowers is a new version of the Improv Flowers class I have been teaching for years. Last year I put all my class samples together to make Intertwined. This quilt then went on to become my first prize winning quilt at Festival of Quilts last August!

The online class takes you through making the main block (as seen in the cushion above) and then expanding that with EPP flowers, applique tendrils and a brand new Improv Dresden Quarter flower block. We also look at exactly how I made the Intertwined quilt.  This class is available along with the Annual or Term One passes OR as a single pre-recorded video class (over 2 hours in length, in 4 chapters). It is Live now, just head to our website here for more info or to purchase.

While I was waiting for my class to come round I had a wonderful time trying out Karen’s X as in Hexie EPP class which was our April workshop (and is still available to buy too!).

I chose all my current favourite linen mix and woven fabrics to create this beautiful pillow. I then quilted it with Aurifil 12wt wool in diagonal and straight grid.  I know I say this a lot but this cushion is a keeper for sure!

Next month we have the first of our Masterclasses. As the Academy is split into 3 x 4 month terms and there are only three of us we are spending the fourth month of every term on a different subject that we all have our own areas of expertise to offer.

Our first masterclass is on Applique. I will be teaching hand needle-turn applique, Karen is doing reverse applique and Lynne raw-edge applique.  Other masterclasses coming up through the year focus on quilting and binding.

I have made this cute Hearts and Flowers mini quilt as the pattern for the masterclass. I’ll be making another when I record the videos and that one will become a pouch. The masterclass went on sale yesterday and will go live on June 1st. Check out all the Academy class info here.

And just a quick reminder about another two online teaching events coming up very soon. In fact Embroidery Extravanganza is tomorrow! Click here to buy your pass. You can join in live or watch everything later as it is all being recorded. More info in this post.

Next Monday the Making Zen Online Retreat starts. This is a FREE event but you can also purchase an All Access Pass which means you will get continued access to all the video classes! Plus tons of freebies including a PDF bundle of five of my classic quilt patterns! It’s well worth paying the small amount for this Pass. Click here to buy or sign up for FREE and join me to make Shisha Samosas!

I’ll be back soon to tell you about big changes that are happening in my life imminently!

  1. What beautiful work!!! I’m overwhelmed with all you have going on. I can sew and knit as well as cross stitch. I have made a couple very easy quilts.
Where would I possibly begin? 😊
