Christmas Reindeer Sew Along Part 2

It’s time for part 2 of the Christmas Reindeer Sew Along and now we have made our outer panels it’s time to add our ears before sewing the gusset and finishing the pony body.

When I decided to make the pony into a reindeer I originally thought that it would just involve the addition of antlers.

But then I realised that the ears would have to change too, both in shape and position.

The new ears have an inner and outer aspect and are pointier then the pony’s. They also sit back further around the head.

Don’t forget to sew the ears into the seam before sewing your gusset! Something I have done on a number of occasions.

Sewing the gusset can be slightly tricky especially the second side and I would very much recommend you take a look at the original SAL part 2 post here where I go into great detail and even include a video tutorial of this stage.

As I mentioned in the last post, this reindeer is made from an old corduroy mini skirt and there was just enough fabric for the pony back and front.

So I needed to find something else for the gusset. I decided to use this very fancy needlecord I had in my stash. I love the bohemian vibe it’s added to the Folk Art Reindeer!

I also decided to stick with the red vibe and make my ears and antlers from red felt rather than brown. But more on the antlers next week!

As with almost all my ponies, unicorns and reindeers I used left over wadding to stuff it. I always have so much of this so each pony/reindeer makes a good dent in my scraps!

For the embroidery on this reindeer and the hand stitching on ears and antlers I always use Aurifil 12wt wool thread. Those of you in the UK might be interested in my current 50% off sale on this thread!

Head to my website here to buy. Sale ends on Friday. And one more information badge…
