Jo Avery – the Blog

FQ London 2012 Linky post

Fat Quarterly

I am a bit late to the party, but I’m here now!
I am linking up to a wee blog hop for everyone attending the Fat Quaterly Retreat in London this weekend. So if you are not coming, I can only apologise, you must be heartily sick of hearing about it!!
I am so excited to be meeting everyone at the weekend! I feel as if I’m meeting up with so many old friends, even if we have never stood face to face before.

My Name Tag for FQ LOndon 2012
My name’s Jo and I will be wearing this adorable badge made by the very talented Emily.

I am a 40 something mother of 2 grown up sons, very happily married to Jonathan (25 years since we met the other day!). I run a shop in Edinburgh, selling lots of lovely homewares, gifts, and now fabric and wool (now available on-line too!), and I teach patchwork, crochet and lots of other things at the weekend.
Despite living in Scotland for the last 23 years I still have my London accent.

There is a little picture of me up in the top left hand corner which is how I really look (but a bit older now!). But this is how I looked on Saturday night at a Eurovison party.

I’m wearing my Mum’s old dress, proper vintage 1960’s!
Who know’s, maybe I’ll be wearing that wig on Saturday! (No, I won’t).

I will miss the Friday night shenanigans, but will get there first thing on Saturday morning. I am staying at the Radisson too (I am imagining pyjama parties and pillow fights and lots of giggling in the corridors!!).
I have no idea which bag I will be carrying or what I will be wearing yet. I haven’t even started packing yet, but I do have all week still – calm down everyone!!
I am also keeping a big secret about the retreat and can’t wait till Friday when it will all be out in the open *wink, wink*.

One more thing, I am having a massive giveaway on my blog to launch the new ‘fabric and wool’ department on our website, so if you haven’t already entered, head on over for a chance to win a big pile of wool and fabric! Still a few days left, click on the link above, or on ‘older posts’.
See you on Saturday everyone!!

  1. Look forward to meeting you Jo! Congrats on the new shop and don't forget that wig… now what's all this secret business, we are your friends right? Surely it wouldn't hurt to just tell us! 🙂

  2. I was a bit late to the party too and am totally disorganised! Was planning to start getting stuff together this morning but seem to be on the internet instead! Dress and wig looks fantastic! You are a bit of a tease with the secret! 😉 See you at the weekend x

  3. Ooh, is this the secret I know about? It's a good one if it's the same one. *g*

Loving your frock, dahling! And you should totes wear that pink wig. Heh heh. Have fun (and, yes, LOADS of time to pack. Just don't leave it til Friday night!)

  4. congratulations on your new store but to be honest I found words like yummy and habby a bit off putting as I'm not a child but a grown up. Some people habitually speak like this I know, but I do find it grating. Others may not agree, but twee language makes me squee.
