Jo Avery – the Blog

Massive Giveaway and website launch!

It’s Giveaway Time everybody!!

Look at this big pile of booty that you could win!!

But first of all I want to share some exciting news with you. For a while now I have been hinting at changes afoot in our Edinburgh shop. Earlier this year we started stocking fabric, wool and haberdashery to compliment the craft classes we embarked on last year. It’s all been selling really well and now we have added most of it to our website! Now everyone can get a little taste of Avery Homestore, no matter where you are!

I have been selecting the fabric and wool that I like to use, and rather than stocking whole ranges I have picked out designs that I think are special and that I would want in my own stash. We also have some great fabric packs that we cut here in the shop.
There will be lots more to come as we are adding items all the time, but this seemed like a good time to get started promoting it.
So I am having a giveaway to launch this new Craft Supplies department on our website!

I have 2 prizes, a WOOL prize and a FABRIC prize. The wool prize has 8 balls of gorgeous Rooster Almerino DK wool. The fabric prize has 15 scrummy fat quarters selected from our stock.
And as well as these each prize also gets this pile of Sass & Belle ribbons and buttons below!

AND we are offering 15% off any orders for craft supplies placed on our website by the end of May! Just use this discount code when you checkout – LAUNCH (case not important). Hopefully this will tempt someone to give us our first craft order!

So how do you enter?
Well it’s pretty standard really, just leave a comment saying whether you would like wool or fabric. But I would love you to pop on over to the website and let me know what you think too! So if you would like to put something else in your comment, like which fabric you liked best or what you thought of the look of it, that would be very much appreciated.
That comment gives you one entry to the giveaway, but here’s how you can get even more entries:

 1. Sign up for our email newsletter on the website, come back and leave a
comment telling me you’ve done this and you will get another entry.

2. If you are a follower, leave another comment to let me know and you will get another entry.

3. Blog, Facebook or Tweet about this giveaway, come back and tell me in another comment (with a link please) and get yet another entry!

So that’s a maximum of 4 raffle tickets!
This giveaway will end in a weeks time at midnight on Thursday 31st May Wednesday 30th May – sorry everyone, only just realised I won’t have time to post the results if I leave it till Thursday as I am off to FQ London Retreat first thing Friday!
It is open to everyone, wherever you are!
Good Luck everyone!!

  1. Yay, how exciting! I will be there asap! The website looks great and is easy to navigate. Looking forward to being able to get my hands on the fabric.

  2. Just popped over to the website, it looks great, clean, easy to navigate and loads really well, although I got sidetracked by the Greengate tin picnic box!

I'm a fabric girl at heart

  3. My heart says fabric, by my head is saying "wool!", tonight my head wins! Congratulations and goodluck with the new aspect of your business, I'm heading over now for a look

  4. I'd like the wool. The soft colors are very appealing.

I liked the "Hexies" fabric pack on the shop site. It is a geat idea. Unless one has an Accuquilt (I don't), cutting out is time-consuming.

Would you please cross-reference the shop fabric selections as to theme?? i.e, Animals; Birds; Stripes, etc. I'm not familiar with all of those designers and usually want to pick my fabrics by themes.

  5. Congratulations on the new store, it looks great and works well (i.e. I click on things and they work – always a good sign!), I love the fabric selection you have. I'd love to win the fabric (I can't knit!) thanks

  6. I would love either the wool or fabric – and your website looks great. I love the idea of project- specific fabric bundles.

  7. Tried to sign up for the website but it wouldn't register. I will try again, but if not, please go ahead and put my email address down. Forgot to say I'd be up for the fabric if I won please! Jxo

  8. I love the fabric pack! I checked out your website and the photo on the home page made me drool — I'd love to have a craft room so organized and full of lovely things! I liked the fabrics too, especially the Sarah Watts fabric with the birds wearing hats. So cute!

  9. Good Morning! I am a follower and will try again later to sign up for the newsletter (it wouldn't click in–probably LOTS of people signing up!!)

  10. How wonderful that you are expanding your shop! The wool looks so fantastic, but I just started knitting socks, so I wouldn't want to ruin the wool! If I am fortunate enough to win, I'd pick the fabric. Thanks for the giveaway

  11. I'm a new follower;I visited your site and I liked the fabrics by K. Fasset, in particular Asian circles, even those that I love Amy Butler.
I post in my blog the link to visit.
    bye
    Daniela

  12. Fabric, please!

The pictures of the shop on your site are great – very bright and cheery. Also, love the Millefiore fabric. Having a "new" products button is great for people like me who are not up on all the new lines all the time!

  13. Lots of lovely fabric on the website, but I would like a view all option for the designer fabric rather than have to click on each designer individually.
(I'd love the fabric bundle should I be lucky.)

  14. What a great site!! I love the colours the wool comes in – I've not seen that brand before but it looks gorgeous!! I'm going to plump for the wool option – if I win I'm going to make myself a crochet blanket !

  15. I've signed up for your newsletter!
P.S. I messed up the first time and signed up with an incomplete email address so you can delete the 'hjpurvis@….' one from the list if you like! Sorry about that, I'm having a blonde day!

  16. Since I both knit and quilt I can't make up my mind which I prefer! I guess I'd say fabric because my yarn stash is huge; I can tell you how much is in my fabric stash so it's obviously not enough!

Wishing you all the best in your new online venture.

  17. What a lovely shop – would love to visit. The fabrics are gorgeous but I'm in love with the wool!
I am already an avid follower and even have you on my sidebar as a daily must read.
    Congrats on new shop.

  18. wow! this is pretty great.

i would love to receive either prize 🙂

i have a small suggestion for your site. i love the design and the colours, and thecraft section is easy to navigate until you get to your designer fabrics. it would be good if you could a) add pictures of the most iconic print (or FQ set or something) with a designer's name, or b) offer another option of sorting designer fabric, perhaps by line? i know a few people who know names of lines and not designers so this might be a good way to make navigating that section a little easier. otherwise, it looks lovely!

my email is supersharmie at gmail dot com

  19. i would prefer the fabric please.
as for your website: the wall with all the different colored products is fabulous – fantatic visual appeal – as for fabrics, when I click on fabric packs, only two come up. It isn't as easy to go right to your fabric, at least for first pass, for me. wish you the best of luck!

  20. Good Luck on the Website! It looks fabulous so far. You have pretty fabric choices on there already. I have some decisions to make. 🙂 Thank you for the lovely giveaway. I'm a quilter and a knitter so its a hard decision. I guess I will go with the fabric. Can't go wrong there. 🙂

  21. I just had quick look at the website. I like the overall look – it has everything on the first page but doesn't look too cluttered. It's also easy to navigate. I wouldn't mind the yarn or fabric if I won thank you.
    Teresa x

  22. Jo your website is really easy to navigate. If I were to be lucky enough to win your giveaway then I would love the fabric bundle.

  23. I jumped on over here from Lily's quilts and was happy to do so after checking out your store. Lots of great items – especially the hexie pack – what a cool idea! Just added you to my follow list too. Thanks for the chance to win some great items!

  24. Your store is lovely. I love that you have an option to browse all of the new items. I especially loved the Treasure Box – Ocean print. Lovely!!! I love fabric and the bundle you have put together is simply scrumptious 🙂

  25. I also love the fabrics. I went to your website and your bunting fabric sets are so fresh and fun looking. I especially loved pack c, your newest!

  26. I'd love the fabric! Love the bunting packs and the treasure box-ocean is certainly one of my favorite fabrics-those colors are great

  27. Well done you! Still hoping for that lunch (maybe July now!). The new stuff on the site looks great. I especially love the sugar hill – really pretty. The red, white, blue bunting pack is pretty cool too. Juliex

  28. What a beautiful shop you have! Loved the pics. I think your online shop is easy to use and well organized.
Thanks for a great giveaway and congrats on your site/business!
Your choices are tempting but I'd have to go with the wool even though I love all of your fabric choices….aghhhh…..
    jodym7atyahoo.com

  29. Congratulations! Website looks great. I especially like the hexie pack as when I was doing my charm quilt I found it quite hard to just buy fabric packs suitable for making hexies. Even though now I have a big stash of fabric at the time it was quite limited and I really didn't want to buy a stack of fat quarters purely to cut out a small square!

  30. Good luck with the launch Jo.The website is really interesting with the different "departments".
I like the Charlotte Lyons fabric, very quirky, and like Jan, the hexie packs are a good idea also the packs with 9 x 7 pieces.
I would of course prefer fabric if I won.

  31. I've signed up for your newsletter – I've been to Edinburgh once and just loved it. I feel so special getting a newsletter from a crafting store in Edinburgh now. 😉
I'm not sure if the giveaway is open to International, but if so, I'd love the fabric.
    Thank you!

  32. Had a look at fabrics, very tasty. I tend to buy precuts, jelly rolls and charms and sometimes layer cakes. I usually buy fabric in lengths for quilt backs only as I hate cutting into yardage.

  33. Hi, I am following you! What fantastic prizes – if I do win, I would prefer the wool (surprise surprise!). I already receive your emails.

  34. I love that you have beautiful Martha Negley fabric, and feature some of it on the front page.

Please enter me for the fabric giveaway.

  35. Hi! I just found out about your shop and blog. I like to learn about new to me blogs! I love your beautiful shop photo on the opening page of your online store, and you have nice, bright fun fabrics. Good idea on the scrap packets for hexies!

  36. Great shop you have; I'm so happy for you!
I'd love to come myself and have a look around, but I don't suppose I'll come to Edinburgh this summer.
I like both, fabric and wool, but perhaps the fabrics even more.

  37. The website looks great! I clicked around through it and love the Marie Perkins fabric. I've never seen it before. Two things…I don't know if when going to the homepage (not clicking through your blog) if I would find designer fabrics. I'm not sure I would know to click on "craft supplies" at the top of the page. And then I noticed a category called "habby" at the bottom. I clicked on it and it said catalog was being added, but I don't know what "habby" is. Looks great! I'd like to be entered for the fabric. Thanks!

  38. Thanks for the generous giveaway! I'd love to win either prize, but especially the fabric. I stopped over to the shop at it looks great. I love the Pear fabric. I have a collection of pears in my kitchen, so this fabric would make an awfully cute apron for me.

  39. Love the site–clean, easy to navigate, beautiful pictures–I also like how it is linked to the classes and your blog. Makes me wish I lived closer so I could attend a class–but it's a long flight 😉 And you're right those fabrics and yarn are yummy!

  40. I facebooked it and am going to throw up a notice on my blog–I'll be shopping come payday–I need that bento lunch box…and I might have to throw in some fabric, you know, just to make the shipping worth it. 😉

  41. have been trying to make your newsletter sign up button work … but no luck. used each of your links to your shopsite to get to the page, too. will try later.

  42. Oh wow….fabric please! The website is bright and cheerful with a great choice of fabrics…interesting houses too!
Really like the aboriginal spot fabrics..very striking!

  43. I would be happy with either, but fabric is my first choice. Nice website! I love the Millie's closet line. Those little purses are so cute and the dots are great too.

  44. My favourite fabric from the shop isn't on the website as far as I can see – it's the lovely corduroy-like fabric with the birds on it! So lovely and soft! Needless to say, if I win I'd love the fabric prize!

  45. The fabric is fantastic and with a new sewing machine and lots of patterns to try out I'll be back to visit your site very soon 😉 Thank you.
    havenera at gmail dot com

  46. That's some pretty awesome fabric you have, but I'm new to knitting and would love to win the wool. I'm too chicken to buy any just yet, so I've been making do with what I already had (leftovers of the cheap stuff that I use in the classroom!). Thanks for the giveaway, and congratulations on getting your store online! 🙂

  47. Wow, the fabric, no doubt. I have nothing against the wool, but all I could do with a pair of wool needles would be hurting someone, so the fabric is a safer option.

Thanks for the chance to win!

    lauramdd(at)terra(dot)es

  48. Love the website Jo, knew I'd like the fabrics if you had choosen them. Especially liked the Millefiore.Would love to win the fabrics.

  49. I have signed up for the newsletter, and I don't mind whether I win fabric or yarn, can use them both, and they look fantastic. Speaking of which your shop is looking great too. Will give it a mention in my Sunday night fabric shop round up. 🙂

  50. Oh so hard to choose, think I would go for fabric but the wool is gorgeous too. I got distracted on your website by the courses you are running so will be keeping an eye out for any in August when I am free :0)

  51. I have just been over to the website and had a good look. My favourite new fabrics are the heirloom opal in dandelion, the the heirloom opal in jade, and flower jacks in blue. I also adore the aprons! Thank you for a great giveaway, I would love to win the fabric.
    ks(dot)eyles(@)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk

  52. Shop looks great, nice clean and fresh look to it, and the fabric packs and kits are lovely. Oh I would love the fabric were I to win!

  53. Congratulations on your new venture!
    FABRIC PRIZE
I like that you carry Amy Butler fabrics like the ones in your giveaway photo. I buy yardage when required for a specific pattern, or backing. Otherwise, I like the variety of fqs. alternate email mlwright29(at)hotmail(dot)com

  54. Hmmm wool or fabric..really I would take either…I am a quilter and knitter…but if I have to pick I will pick the wool because I have way more fabric than wool!

  55. I follow your blog on rss feed and I have just signed up for the newsletter – that should be fun. Thanks for the opportunity to win

  56. Love your blog! all those pretty colours 🙂 And would love to win the fabric. Yay for another fabric shop in Scotland and online – like I need the encouragement!

  57. Lots of lovely stuff! Oh now which would I like? I've been quilting lately so I do need more new fabric, yes, fabric please.

  58. definitely would love the wool–making my fingers twitch just thinking about playing with it and might even pass some of it on to my knitting dd and ddil. it's just beautiful. thanks for the opportunity and have a great day

  59. Your website is very well put together. Very clean looking, or not over-crowded. It's easy to navigate and I like that you can select fabric by designer. I forgot to see if you can sort or check by color or line of fabric as well. Love the name Habby! It was still under construction. Love your selection of fabrics, really great job! I'd go for the wool, it sounds so beautiful.

  60. I like the fabric.
In looking around your store I did see three fabrics that looks like they'd be perfect to use in almost anything. Those are the Anne Kelle stripes and dots fabrics.

  61. Ohh. Wool or fabric. It's like having to choose your favourite child. I'd say fabric, (and just as happily have the beautiful wool). It's a toughie. Website looks terrific. Congratulations.

  62. What a grand giveaway. I would like the fabric but the yarn looks great too.

I have visited your shop and see that that there is no shipping information to Asia. You don't send items there?

  63. Congratulations on your new web shop! I like that you have all the great fabrics, of course, but also that you carry other stuff, like the great tea towels. I loved the bunting fabric packs as well.

Thanks for the giveaway, I would love the fabrics.

  64. Have signed up for your email newsletter – I am not a knitter I'm afraid, so I am interested in your fabric! Thanks and good luck!

  65. Thank you for chance to win all those scrumptious looking fabrics! Pics on your website of your shop are awesome! I'm drooling at how pretty it is.

  66. I love the fabric. As for patterns I love Natalie Lymers Woodland and the new range Winterkist by Monica Solorio-Snow.
I love how easy it is to look around your store. I also love the range of fabrics and wools that you have.

  67. I just adore the whole store! So many cute things I want to buy! I like the hexi fabric packs, I love the idea of being able to buy a pack for a project to save me the work of getting everything together. Good luck with the venture and thanks so much for the give away, Id like (love!) the fabric if I won xxx

  68. Hello, what a lovely generous giveaway! Best of luck with your launch, I'm sure it'll go fantastically well – just been on your website and it looks great! It looks so bright and fresh and cheerful, really lovely! If I were to win this giveaway, I'd like the fabric please 🙂 Good luck with everything, Kate x

  69. LOVING the homepage photo! It looks incredibly welcoming, and the site works very easily and in a fluid way – will be good for business 🙂 As a button, ribbon and fabric lover, I'd be verrry happy to give all of it a good home. x

  70. Yay You! I think the wools are absolutely wonderful – what a fantastic colour palette … these are pushing me ever closer to picking up a hook or some needles again …I'd like to do a giant granny square lap blanket I think … anyway, I digress.

I think the website looks fab and when I have money to spend I will spend some with you.

  71. I love both prizes, but first choice would be the fabric! I love your website, Very pretty and organised. My only problem was that it was slightly difficult to click on the titles of wool, designer fabric etc. I had to click and then click on a box that said click for more info. Although that might only be because I'm using an IPad and they don't always wok so well. I love your workshop pages and will have to come along one day, when my baby boy is a bit bigger and can do without me for a day! 🙂 x

  72. Wow Jo I didn't know you did all this and sewed for our Cherish circle as well! The shop looks lovely pity its over the other side of the world!

  73. This seems like a very natural progression for you given your love of craft, your craft classes, your proven ability in tapping into the right markets – so best of luck with your latest venture.

I am slightly concerned that you may no longer be stocking paint these days – so may I ask if you do? I hope to be in Edinburgh soon and had hoped to pick up a pot or two of my favourite paints whilst there. Perhaps I should email you separately about this as my enquiry may get lost in the hundreds of comments you have received so far (you can't beat a good giveaway to draw the crowds!).

Not keen on Amy Butler fabrics – becoming rather commonplace don't you think? Website easy to navigate. BB

  74. I would love the fabric. Your website is great, the photo of the shop interior is lovely & I like that the website is easy to negotiate.

  75. what lovely fabrics that you are carrying on your website- I love Kaffe Fassett and Valori wells fabrics..
Good luck to you and Congratulations on the opening of your website.
    Regards from western Canada,
    Anna

  76. I have been a follower for a long while now. I also have put a share on facebook but don't know how to link it for you
You have a terrific blog and now a very nice website.
    Regards from Western Canada,
    Anna

  77. Yo JO!:) I haven't the time to look at the website today but I was on it a couple of weeks ago and my fav are the dreamhouse prints. I think I am going to have to order one and I know exactly which one…I was wondering…will the artist sign it?:)

Fabric or wool…both are equally fab! Congrats on the new launch and I promise to go look as soon as I have a few extra moments!:)
    xo

  78. I didnt read the instructions properly! I am a follower although just signed up to sending comments just now. Either stash looks great but probably the wool one.

  79. I would love the fabric. Your website looks really good and is easy to browse. I only wonder if I could order from it and have my order delivered to Canada, I only saw shipping costs for Europe and USA.

  80. I think the website looks fantastic. The wool is lovely and it's great to see all the colours side by side for contrasting. Also great that you have the colour and the code for the wool as often you can only order by one or the other. The postage rate is really reasonable and great to have a flat rate – not necessary for me though as i am in the shop every other day anyway 🙂
With the fabric, it would also be great to be able to search for fabric by colour. Also may be an idea to state size of your fat quarters as seems to vary depending on website and some send long strips rather than fat rectangles. Looks fab though.

  81. I have commented on Facebook. Here is what I have said as i have no idea how to send a link – IT skills not quite up to scratch!
"Check out this new webite http://averyhomestore.co.uk/ Lots of lovely wool, fabric and crafty stuff and great courses. I have spent a lot of my maternity leave there doing classes and learning lots of new skills – great fun!"

  82. I am just getting back into knitting so I would be thrilled with yarn, especially your favorite yarn. The buttons are also favorites of mine thanks for sharing.
Congrats on your new website. Owls are one of my favorite, so I need to make yours from your tutorials, oh and also the embroidery is darling. Thanks

  83. I would be thrilled with either prize, as I am a quilter and my twin sister is a knitter. I enjoyed peeking around your shop, and love the idea of the hexie fabric pack. As a scrap quilt and someone who is making a Grandmother's Flower Garden, that is the kind of ing I'd love to buy.

  84. I would love to win the fabrics. I have visited the webshop and loved the fabric with Peonies. Oh Gosh what a beautiful bag I could sew from that…

  85. This is a great shop – I wouldn't have been able to visit it in person but on-line is great – means I can shop at midnight!! Great giveaway – I would LOVE the fabric bundle…oooh fabric!!!

  86. I would love the fabric if I won. I loved the look of the website. I loved the selection of fabrics. I can't wait until the notions are available to look at. I don't knit, so I didn't even look at the wool. Thanks for the chance to win 🙂

  87. I would be excited for either one, but I would probably love the fabric a little bit more. Thanks for the chance to win!
    jujubee676 at msn.com

  88. Congratulations on the new site! Everything looks great and it's easy to move around. I'd love to win the fabric even though the wool looks beautiful.

Thank you for a super giveaway and a chance to win.

    usairdoll(at)gmail(dot)com

  89. I signed up for your newsletter. I found you via Lily's Quilts.

Congratulations and Thank you for an awesome giveaway and a chance to win some gorgeous fabric.

    usairdoll(at)gmail(dot)com

  90. I used the "share" buttons at the end of your post to tweet and to post to my FB page. Those buttons make it so easy! (@usairdoll)

Thanks again for a chance to win some great fabric.

    usairdoll(at)gmail(dot)com

  91. Wow, lovely giveaway. Will definitely have a good look around your shop once I've saved some pennies after FQ London 🙂 I would love either the fabric or the wool as I sew as well as crochet. Thank you and see you soon!

  92. Hello lovely,
I had a moochyMcScooch around the website and I loved the how design looks both bright and colourful AND has clean lines. The cover photo gave me a really good idea of how your shop must look and the links lead through to similarly easy to follow pages. Loved the idea of the hexie and bunting packs.
    Trash

  93. 1. I have followed you for a long time.
    2. I signed up for your newsletter. (even the classes in case I ever make it out there.)
    3. I am leaving you a note.

  94. Thanks for the massive giveaway!! I'd be delighted to win either prize, they really are delicious 🙂
The website looks wonderful. I like the different departments and look forward to seeing your Habby goodies too. The hexie packs of fabric could be very useful.
I must admit I find it a little strange buying FQ Yards and bigger lengths of fabric by the half metre. I think I'd find it easier using just one unit of measurement.

  95. Entering your webshop makes me happy! Love the picture on your home page. Really wants me to go inside. You have a lovely range of fabric and wool with such nice and soft colors.
It is very easy, to find my way through your store, which I think is very important. And, I love your hexie fabric pack. So original and so easy to get started!
Congratulations with your new crafts Supply Department!

  96. I would love to win the fabric.
I really love the Perle Cotton on your website.
And can't wait to be able to buy one of those cute embroidery patterns from you soon.xxxx
