Double Dish Fish Quilt

Did you think I’d gone for good?! I didn’t mean to leave a whole two months between posts (the longest I’ve ever left in nearly a decade!) but I was working on a really big project that took all my time and energy (there’ll be more info on this in the New Year) and this dear old blog was one of the things that suffered.

But I’m back with a bit of a show-stopping quilt (IMHO anyway!) that I have been desperate to share for the last six months!

This is Double Dish Fish, a modern version of a double wedding ring design with a bit of a pickle dish thrown in too.

It features in the new issue (69) of Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine which is out today.

I was making this quilt way back in the summer and I posted this teaser shot on IG of the FPP curved sections.

I have been using a few different ranges of solids this year, Cotton Supreme from RJR Fabrics and Bella Solids from Moda, as well as the Kona Solids that we sell in myBearpaw store.  These have all got quite mixed up in my stash so I have no idea where the solids I used in this quilt are from!

I decided to use the motif created by the pattern as inspiration for an overall FMQ design.  This was such a fun one to do and the motif started to remind me of a weird fish, which then found it’s way into the title.

I have to admit that this was quite a challenging quilt to piece due to the yellow border I added to the corner squares.  Getting the points to match up was not easy and I only just about managed it myself. But then I am not a perfectionist and some of you more accurate quilters might fare better!

Unfortunately this was yet another QuiltCon Reject this year as I failed to get it juried into the 2019 show in Nashville. It’s a shame as I will be visiting myself in February (woot woot!), but I will actually have a quilt in the show, my Modern Love Quilt, which was the MQG Quilt of the Month last January. So that makes up for it a bit.

The Sewing Quarter will be demoing this quilt (and selling kits) on January the 15th so if you fancy making this yourself it should be worth a look.

Meanwhile normal service will now be resuming on this blog as my life regains a better balance again.  I’ll be back with a revue of my 2018 quilts next week, plus news about a new retreat for the summer!
