Jo Avery – the Blog

10 Year Blog Birthday GIVEAWAY!!

Hopefully you all got a chance to read my post yesterday. The 6th of June was 10 years to the day since I started writing this blog and I spent a little time reminiscing and sharing my very first post.

I also mentioned that I would be hosting a special celebratory GIVEAWAY today, to say a huge THANK YOU to all my readers and followers! It really means so much to me that so many of you have stuck around all these years to listen to my ramblings, mwah!!

Well here we go… Giveaway time!! The photo above shows the full extent of the glorious swag that you could win!

There are 20 gorgeous Fat Quarters of Liberty of London’s newest craft cotton line, Hesketh House, courtesy of EQS, thanks guys!

A fabulous Sew Motion Curved EPP cushion kit designed (and kindly donated) by the lovely Louisa Goult. Check out all of Louisa’s kits here.  And thanks Louisa!

A pair of Warm Crochet Scissors. These exquisite rose gold scissors are both beautiful and extremely sharp!

A tin of Karen Lewis Textiles own flavour of Sew Fine thread gloss! These are new and pretty exclusive, check out the full range on Karen’s website here.

A special myBearpaw custom project pouch from Sarah Ashford Studios! This is the largest A3 size that Sarah sells, order your own custom pouch here!

Thanks so much to Karen, Sarah and Warm Crochet for these wonderful prizes!

And lastly one of my Sherbert Dip collection boxes from the amazing folks at Aurifil! This large collection includes 12 x 50wt cotton threads (the best threads you can buy!) in all my favourite colours! Thanks so much to the very generous Aurifil!

Phew! That’s a lot of booty! And because of that, and this special occasion, I am making this giveaway available for entry both here and on my Instagram feed.  I will gather together the entries from both this post and my IG post and choose a random winner from all the entries. I feel like my IG feed is a natural extension of this blog, a place where I micro-blog before returning here to expand more, and where a lot of my earlier blog readership prefers to connect with me.  What I am basically saying is that both places are important to me and I want to give as many of my followers as possible an opportunity to enter.

Edited 12/6/19

The winner is Carol Nelms!  I used the random number generator to choose a winner from the 140 comments below and a scraper tool to choose a winner from my Instagram comments. I then put both names in a hat and asked my husband to pick one. Carol won!  Congratulations Carol, I have sent you an email, please send me your address.

Commiserations the rest of you and thanks so much to all who entered.

How to enter:

To enter the giveaway all you need to do is comment below. If you have any specific memories about my blog then I would love to hear about them, for instance how long have you been reading? Did I ever give you some good advice, or make you laugh? Do you have a favourite quilt of project of mine? If you having nothing particular to say or are completely new here then just say hi!

The giveaway is open to international entries and closes at midnight UK time on Monday 10th June..

If you are on IG too you are welcome to head over to enter there also!

GOOD LUCK!

  1. Hi! I really enjoy your blog, Jo, and I especially like your use of colour. I would love to visit your shop, but it’s a bit of a hoof from Reigate in Surrey! X

  2. Hi Jo! I’m so happy for you to be celebrating this huge milestone. You’re only six months “younger” than me! I had a giveaway on my blogiversary day too. This is such a fantastic giveaway though. Wow. I’m only sorry I didn’t know you sooner… but thrilled we met at QC in Savannah. Wishing you the best for another ten years. (Though, from my point of view, blog reading and commenting have dramatically dropped. Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth all the time and effort.) Thanks for sharing, and for your generous giveaway!

    1. First, congratulations on your tenth anniversary of your blog. I’m very happy you are still blogging as many of is are not on Instagram and prefer the more chatty and informative nature of blogs. They’re like the old fashioned letter from faraway friends that our ancestor quilters used to write, sometimes in round-robin style. Thanks for offering up such a fabulous giveaway!

  3. Thank you for the giveaway and congrats on your anniversary. I’m a fairly new follower and love your IG posts. I also thank you for introducing me to the Great British Quilter podcast. Cheers!

  4. Hi Jo. Congratulations on your 10th Blogiversery! I’m so glad you asked for memories from your blog because I was going to mention your Tag Square Bee that you ran on Flickr. That must have been near the beginning of your blog journey. I still have my quilt on our bed and it reminds me of the beginning of my quilting journey, too. Although mine hasn’t been as successful as yours! Thank you for offering an amazing giveaway!! I’ve been very lax with MY blog ‘A Time for Stitching’ in recent years since.

  5. Happy 10 years! I’ve followed you on IG but this is my first visit to your blog – can’t wait to explore it further! Congrats!

  6. Congratulations on your anniversary. I follow you on Instagram. Thank you for the inspiration.
    Hi from Sussi

  7. Huge congratulations on 10 years……I think I managed 2!! For me, it was your single fold binding….I fell instantly in love and haven’t used anything since to bind my quilts! More recently (last week!) I listened to you on Sarah’s Great British Quilter podcast…..brilliant. Thank you for all the inspiration you provide! X

  8. I’m compl5new here! Congratulations on your 10 year blog birthday! (I like that so much more than blogiversary.) Your thread collection is gorgeous. I love the bright colors!

  9. Congratulations on 10 years! I have learned much & enjoy all of your IG posts! That’s a huge prize package & you’re a wonderful generous person!
    Thank you! Marcia Baker

  10. Thank you for the give-away. I love your hand quilting and your colourful quilts. And the Great British Quilter podcast which I found last week!

  11. Congratulations! I’ve been absent from the blog world for a while, I’m glad to see you are still here!

  12. Hi Jo, congratulations on your anniversary and thank you for the competition! I think your blog is a wonderful place, here’s to the next ten years! zx

  13. I have followed you for a few years and enjoy your blog! I like all the inspiration and projects! Congrats on 10 years. I will check out your IG, I tend to me more a blog reader and love reading them rather than the short snips on IG. Thank you for the lovely giveaway and blog !!

  14. Thank you for a fabulous giveaway. My favourite things from your blog have to be the tendril pouches that I keep seeing, one day I must make one. I used your tutorial for hand quilting last year when I decided to hand quilt a special 50th birthday present for a friend, my stitching has a long way to go to be as good as yours. Happy blogaversary, here’s to many more years of fabric fun. x

  15. Jo, I am so glad you started your blog and that it led you deeper into the world of quilting and all your other crafty stuff. More importantly I’m glad that you started teaching for I have learnt so much from your classes. Thank you so much.

  16. Congratulations Jo on 10 years. Been following you many years since a gift of beginners’ patchwork day course at your Morningside Shop started me on the quilting journey (or should I say ‘obsession’)
Wishing you good luck for second decade of blogs.

  17. Happy 10th Blog birthday Jo. I am a bit of a lurker on here as I rarely post anything but I have been reading your posts for years. I also like your tutorials on the blog. Congratulations – I am quite new to Instagram but enjoy reading your posts there also.

  18. I saw your New York Beauty in Todays Quilter then at the Festival of Quilts… totally inspired me. I followed you pattern and have pieced my own…scared but am about to quilt it myself. Also hoping to visit your shop in August cant wait

  21. I’ve been reading and following your blog for years. I love seeing your gorgeous projects! Even though I don’t do embroidery, I love seeing the stitching you add to your quilts and projects that make them extra special. And you have such a talent for putting colors together! Congratulations on 10 years, I hope you will write for many more. I prefer blogs to quick snippet type social media. Thanks for the chance in this fabulous giveaway!

  25. I’ve been following your blog since I came across your stall at a Malvern show 3 years ago. I bought a quilt kit (squares in grey/ Alison Glass fabric) which was the first quilt kit I ever bought. It was a gentle introduction to a hobby that I have become hooked on. I’m enjoying the EPP work that you’ve been showing us of late. Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough to try this as a project too. Congratulations on reaching 10 years, I’m looking forward to reading the next 10.

  26. I can’t remember if I first did a class with you at the old shop or read your blog – obviously I continue to do both. They are great and always make me smile!

I have been following you for a few years now and love seeing the quilts come to life. I have still to take the plunge myself. I adored the quilts made for the Social bite Village. I adore the tiny houses and the idea that the people in the village have a hand made quilt for them for life is awesome.

  43. Aw, Jo! Congratulations on 10 years of blogging! I’ve enjoyed visiting your blog over the years. Not sure when I first found you, I thought it was through the mug rug swaps on Flickr, but maybe it was pincushion swaps …… but it’s been a long time! I love your quilting style, and your lovely embroidery. You did some fabric painting for a pouch, a while back, at a time when I was experimenting with painting on fabric …… I still need to stitch my painted fabric! Tee hee!

You will certainly make someone v-e-r-y happy! I hope it’s me!!!

I’ve been following since before the first Brit Quilt Swap back in 2011 when you made that lovely, but insane quilt of teeny kaleidoscope blocks! I love your style and colour, always such a feast for the eyes, and I have really enjoyed glimpses of your crochet projects too, Jo. Thank you for the giveaway opportunity.

  48. I have been following your blog for years now. Good way for YOU to see what was happening in your life also. I think what is special is how you work alongside with your husband on the homeless problem. After shopping at My Bear Paw last June, my daughters & I had lunch at a bistro table outside when a young lad pulled a mattress out and layed down blocking the entire sidewalk…an image you do not forget. Thanks for the great, REALLY great giveaway.

  49. Congrats on your Blogiversary! Years of hard work I’m sure! I’ve lurked on your blog for a very long time but started following it diligently when your Medallion quilt showed up at the Bloggers Quilt Festival several years ago–2015 maybe? Didn’t want to miss any more of your quilt! I adore your applique touches and the happy, happy vibe to your color choices. You’ve almost made me want to make a pouch just because I loved the applique work you did.:) Thanks for the chance to win your awesome giveaway and thanks even more with sticking with blogging and continuing to share your creative journey with us.
