A First Look Inside My New Book!

I’ve just recently got the news that my book is going to be ready in time to launch at QuiltCon!

I’m very excited about this as I’m going to be in Austin too next month! This means I will be able to do book signings at the C & T Publishing stand and also at Morris Textiles where I’ll also be doing some demos, more details to come on all this very soon.

Meanwhile I can finally give you a little peep inside New Patchwork and Quilting Basics!

The quilt at the top of the page is Pinball Wizard, one of my favourite quilts from the book and one of the most intermediate designs. It was also quilted by my karaoke pal and long arm maestro Tatyana Duffie. As regular readers will spot it’s a new version of two of my previous quilts, ‘Modern Love’ and ‘Conkers’. This new design mashes the two together in spectacular fashion!

Though the book is all about quilting basics my hope was always to appeal to new as well as existing quilters. My vision is to get new quilters started with simple projects and then move them along to try out a range of techniques. There are so many different aspects to quilting and it is this variety that keeps us all hooked for life! Once they have tried a few different things there is a number of more intermediate projects, like Pinball Wizard, where they can combine the skills that they have previously mastered.

On the left is a sneak peek of my hand quilted Tree of Paradise quilt from the triangle section. I’ve been dying to make a red and white quilt for ages and can’t wait to show you this in all it’s glory!

And of course there had to be some needle turn applique in there somewhere. On the right is a new version of one of my  flower garland cushions designed especially for beginners to this technique.

With the Stream Quilt below we get a chance to try out curves. This is a very simple pattern and a gentle curve but it still produces a really dynamic effect of ripples and reflections in a stream. It’s made with Moda Grunge ‘Seeing Stars’ in shades of blue and green.

Lastly here’s a glimpse of one of the first quilts in the book, Zen Garden, it’s a really quick and easy beginner quilt but with a clever modern twist. I am looking forward to sharing it in it’s entirety but I’m going to keep you on your toes for a bit longer with these teaser shots  😉

You can now pre-order New Patchwork and Quilting Basics from Amazon or other outlets. Here is an affiliate link to Amazon UK.

I will also be selling signed copies direct from my website once the book lands in the UK. Currently the book should be in stores in the US late February and late March in the UK, though I am hopeful it may be brought forward a little. Sign up for the newsletter at the top of the sidebar to be kept up to date on this.

And look out for more posts about the book soon plus a bloghop and a sew along coming in a few months!
