Social Bite Village – Quilts Received Already!

I thought you’d all like an update on the Social Bite Homeless Village Quilt Drive.

Well I’m delighted to say that so far I have either received or been promised 33 quilts!  Yes 33 quilts from a standing start!

You guys are just amazing! Such kind generous people 🙂

I have 10 quilts here (that’s 7 more than the original 3 I shared in the first post) and the rest are either waiting to be sent or a WIP.

Let’s have a look at some of the beautiful new quilts I’ve received…

I love this quilt that was made by Mags with Bee Blocks from the Edinburgh Modern Quilt Guild – such a striking design.

This really fascinating quilt was made by another EMQG member, Sheila @Budsmam, what a great pattern.

One of the ladies that comes along to our Crafternoons, Catherine, donated two quilts that had each

been beautifully hand quilted with such tiny neat stitches!

I love the simple large pastel squares that show off the delicate quilting so well.

The second quilt from Catherine is this stunning purple design, again with amazing hand quilting.

Fiona got in touch via Facebook to offer this lovely star quilt in warm, earthy tones.  This looks like such a cosy quilt!

These next two quilts were started during the two Sew-in Days I had at myBearpaw Studio last month.  I had brought in lots of orphan blocks and WIP quilt tops.

Mairi chose to put together these wonky cross blocks which were class samples from my Colour Theory workshop. She used a small black and white dot for a border and then took it home to quilt.  Very happy to have these finally made into a quilt!

Birgit chose to put together these blocks that were left over from the Maggie’s Centre Quilt I made.  I received around 150 blocks for that quilt and so during the Sew-in Days we made three tops from the left overs! Do you recognise your block?

Birgit put these together and sashed them in Kona Snow. She then took it home to quilt and managed some pretty impressive FMQ…

We had a fantastic time at the Sew-in Days (as you can see in the photo below!) and managed to start 7 different quilt tops!

I took two of them home to quilt (on my to do list still) which were made by Pam and Mags, and Claire, Carol, Suzanne and Margaret are all finishing either the whole quilt or the top at home.

I was planning another Sew-in Day in the summer but we’ve had such a successful quilt drive that I am putting it off till later in the year.

I’ve also managed (with the help of Jonathan) to order the quilt labels from Spoonflower.

Aurifil have come on board as a sponsor and are providing thread for all the quilters. And Groves are providing a huge roll of Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 every year for the wadding.  Both companies have been hugely supportive and positive about this project so a big thanks to them.

A massive thanks to all the quilters who have provided or offered their help! I am so excited to receive the rest of the quilts from all you amazing people. And I’ve noted all the offers for future help and will certainly follow that up in time!

I am now coordinating with the new support staff at the Social Bite Village about handing over the quilts. And I’ll be back with more updates about this project soon.

But for now a huge THANK YOU!!!

  1. Glad it’s going well jo. I’m all cut out and start stitching tomorrow whilst we all chat at the Stirling Stitchers. Such a great project. Thanks again for organising. J

  2. I have a quilt I can donate and could bring it to the Scottish quilters group AGM in Perth to give you if it helps. Sheila Scott
