Love Patchwork and Quilting?

What’s this odd looking thing, I hear you ask…?
I do have a good reason for showing you a photo of a weird chicken stick in a blogpost all about a new magazine, but you’ll have to read on to find out what it is!

Have you heard about this new modern patchwork and quilting magazine yet? Even better have you bought one?

Well if you haven’t I strongly recommend that you do. Love Patchwork and Quilting is such a beautifully produced magazine, crammed full of wonderful quilts like this 60 degree triangle design from Jeni Baker – so simple but so effective!

Or Katy’s Cotton Reels Quilt. I love the rainbow fabrics and the low volume stripy background.

And my good friend Lynne is doing 2 blocks a month! Every month Lynne is showing 2 different blocks and how to make these into a quilt, or you can make just 2 every month and have a stunning sampler quilt at the end!

There is a really comprehensive technique section, perfect for beginners and improvers alike.

And everything is so beautifully styled (as you would expect from the publisher of Mollie Makes) that you can hardly keep from gasping as every new page full of crafty eye candy opens up before you!

And here is a lovely project to make scandi rabbits. Don’t they look cute? What could possibly go wrong making these?

I have realised something about myself – I am not very good at following patterns.
I think my naturally rebellious streak means that I can never just make something as it was meant to be. I have to fiddle around and change it. And even if I was trying to make those actual scandi rabbits, I wouldn’t have read it all properly, I would have just skimmed the instructions and made it up as I went along.

Now usually I get lucky and it turns out ok, but this time I’m not so sure.

Tomorrow we are holding our Stitch Gathering Xmas Craft Day and I needed to make a Handmade Secret Santa swap item. My partner loves chickens, especially her favourite chicken Clara.
So I thought, let’s turn one of those cute little rabbits into a cute little Clara chicken!
Hmmm… I’m not sure that this has been my finest crafting hour!

My son even went so far as to say that chicken stick here was ‘the most mental thing I’ve ever made’. Luckily my partner is definitely on the mental side too (and a very good friend!), and I just hope she brings her sense of humour along with her tomorrow!

My inability to follow patterns aside, this fabby new magazine has everything the modern quilter needs and more. I just can’t wait for issue 2 to arrive!
