2021 in Quilts
Happy New Year! And goodbye to 2021 whose main redeeming feature was being a bit better than 2020!
To carry on a decade long tradition I’m greeting 2022 with a mosaic round up of the quilts I made during the last 12 months. For this photo collage I’ve included some mini quilts as the 10 full sized quilts I finished wouldn’t fit into a grid!
It’s the usual mix of modern, traditional and something in between. There’s both of the last two year’s Thread House Club BOM quilts with a second (and enlarged) version of the Folk Dance Quilt and the new Free Bird Quilt. I produced two magazine commision quilts for Today’s Quilter, the Flowering Snowball and Dresden Daisy. Tiny Improv World and Journey to the Centre of a Flower were two new competion quilts. I managed to finish the Splendid Sampler 2 quilt and put together all my house blocks from countless classes to produce quilts that were either gifted and donated. I made the new version of the Bedding Plants quilt from New Patchwork and Quilting Basics for my first ever QAL and I finished my Weather Bubble Temperature Quilt.
And then I made a small selection of mini quilts to promote things (the Free Bird BOM and my Designer Dies for the Crafter’s Companion Gemini machine), to try out ruler quilting on my new Moxie Long Arm (now almost a year old!) and for a swap. Considering this was the year where I struggled a bit with my sew-jo I am pleased to see how productive I’ve been!
I’ve spent the last few days putting together 3 quilt tops made from my big pile of orphan blocks and it’s been so much fun! I’ve really enjoyed my time at the sewing machine and the design wall, more so than I have for months. So I start 2022 feeling quite rejuvenated and ready to create. But with a strong ambition to do it in as sustainable way as possible. This year will be all about using stuff up, starting with a new Sustainable Sew Along! I’ll be back with more info about this very soon. Meanwhile I hope you are feeling as positive as I am about the year to come!
Jo, l love your work! I purchased several of your patterns and found them easy to follow with very good instructions. Your whimsical perspective is uplifting and your color choices are yummy. I look forward to seeing what you send out into the creative universe in 2022!
Well done for 2021 & sounds as though a few of us lost some of our sew-jo as mine disappeared over the last few months & I think is slowly returning now. I’d like to thank you for keeping me motivated during the middle of the year with the Bedding Plants QAL & although mine is smaller & I called it Flower Power, I so thoroughly enjoyed using only my scraps & backgrounds from my stash. Look forward to seeing what this year has in store for you. Take care & hugs from down under.
